Here are some helpful shipping tips that we put together for first-time exporters shipping through Los Angeles and Long Beach ports.
PierPass
All containers that discharge at L.A. or Long Beach ports incur a fee called PierPass. You can clear this on your own or your forwarder can, usually for an additional fee. The fee for 20′ containers is $ 37.71 and $ 75.42 for 40′ containers. Check your incoterms to determine who’s responsible for this fee.
Weight Restrictions
Packing and Loading
We offer packing and loading services if you prefer not to handle these tasks yourself. Our staff secures and packs your belongings in crates and boxes inside the container, so they can safely arrive at their new home.
Lithium Batteries
Some household goods, such as power tools, are equipped with lithium batteries and can present shipping risks. Document every item that contains a battery so we can safely transport it and avoid shipping delays.
Transit Times
Moving from Los Angeles to Europe can take more than 30 days, while moving to Asia or Latin America can be done in half that time. Reach out to us first to get an estimated transit time before finalizing your travel plans.
Vehicles
Your vehicle can also join you on the journey to your new home. You’ll need to have the original certificate of title and two complete copies of the original Certificate of Title or a certified copy of the original. CBP will inspect the vehicle 72 hours before export to verify the paperwork and VIN.
