President Trump Announces a 10% Tarrif on 8 European Countries for Opposing US Control of Greenland

President Trump announced on Truth Social this afternoon that he no longer intends to impose a 10% tariff on eight European trading partners on February 1, after he and the Secretary General of NATO agreed upon a “framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and the entire Arctic region” today.

Updated January 20, 2026:

President Trump Announces a 10% Tarrif beginning February 1 on 8 European Countries for Opposing US Control of Greenland. The 8 countries affected are the United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Finland. The tariff will rise to 25% by June 1 according to Trump. 

The tariff is pending official confirmation via executive order or Federal Register notice.
